Keith Chelsey | Assistant Coach
Keith Chesley arrived with Head Men's Basketball Coach Donny Lind as an assistant coach, beginning with the 2024-25 season.
Chesley was a member of staff under Andrew Wilson at the Virginia Military Institute, serving as assistant coach and defensive coordinator. The Keydets played an up-tempo style with a youthful roster, and ranked 37th nationwide for defensive rebounds per game, crashing the glass an average of 27 times per contest. Before his time at VMI, Chesley made spots at Army West Point, James Madison, Georgia Southern, Stetson, and Florida State. He was an assistant for Army, director of basketball operations for JMU, Georgia Southern, and Stetson, and served as a graduate assistant for FSU.
As a player, he scored 2,119 points for the University of Maine-Augusta, becoming the all-time leading scorer for the program. A four-time Academic All-American with the United States Collegiate Athletic Association, he was named to the Yankee Small College Conference All-Decade Team and earned the organization's National Student-Athlete of the Year award in 2015. He met his wife Jamie at the college, where she leads the women's program in points, and earned a spot on the YSCC All-Decade Team along with being an Academic All-American. The couple were inducted together into the Athletics Hall of Fame in 2022. He graduated from Maine-Augusta in 2015 and a master's from Florida State in 2018.
Dave Matturo | Assistant Coach
Matturro returns to the Mount for the 2024-25 season as an assistant coach for Head Coach Donny Lind. The one-time Director of Basketball Operations come back after stints as an assistant at Division II and Division III institutions.
The past two years. Matturro worked for Belmont Abbey for two years, guiding the Crusaders to a winning record in Conference Carolinas play during that time. Last season, the team fired shots beyond-the-arc at a high pace, finishing 70th among the 286 Division II schools for three pointers per game. The Crusaders also played aggressive ball, drawing trips to the line to rank 77th for free throws made per contest. Before his time in North Carolina, Matturro was in Virginia working for Randolph-Macon from 2015-22. The Yellowjackets are a perennial powerhouse in Division III, culminating in a national championship during his ultimate year.
From 2012-14, he worked at the Mount serving as Director of Basketball Operations under Jamion Christian and alongside Coach Lind. Additional stops include Shenandoah, VCU, Siena, and high schools in Maryland and New York. He earned his bachelor's degree at St. John Fisher in 2006, following that up with a Masters' degree at VCU in 2012.
Jeremy Freeman | Assistant Coach
Jeremy Freeman in is his fourth season on the Mount St. Mary's coaching staff. The Director of Operations for the first three, he was promoted to assistant coach ahead of the 2023-24 season. Freeman was part of the Mount's staff that led the team to the 2021 NCAA Tournament.
Freeman is entering his second intercollegiate coaching stint. The Baltimore native previously served as the Director of Operations at Holy Cross. He worked for the Crusaders in 2018-19 before serving in his most recent role at Director of Recruiting for the Hoop Group, one of the nation's leader in providing camps and showcases for prospective athletes. A 2015 graduate of Cornell with a degree in applied economics and management, Freeman returned home to Charm City for a three-year tenure as head coach for Mother Seton Academy.
While in Ithaca, Freeman served as a manager for the Big Red basketball team, which was then led by head coach Bill Courtney.
